Canon Pack Lite Terms of Service

Plain-English summary. This is a marketing site for Canon Pack Lite (referred to in these Terms as "CP-Lite"), a methodology and tooling layer for editorial governance of AI reading of books. Browsing this site is governed by these Terms. Any pilot or commercial engagement is governed by a separate signed agreement (an SOW or MSA) which controls in case of conflict. Editorial decisions about your books, including how AI represents them and any fine-tuning of that representation, remain your responsibility as publisher, rights holder, or author. We provide tooling; you hold editorial authority.

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Canon Pack Lite website at cplite.living-literature.org (the "Site") and any services described on the Site ("Services"), provided by Rayan B. Vasse operating as Living Literature ("we," "us," "our"). Canon Pack Lite is referred to throughout these Terms as "CP-Lite."

By accessing the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

Where any pilot, license, or commercial engagement is undertaken, the terms of the separately executed Statement of Work ("SOW"), Master Services Agreement ("MSA"), licensing agreement, Non-Disclosure Agreement ("NDA"), or Data Processing Addendum ("DPA") govern that engagement and control over these Terms in case of conflict.

2. What CP-Lite is and is not

CP-Lite is a methodology and tooling layer for editorial governance of AI-mediated reading of authored works. It is described on this Site for informational and pre-sales purposes. The Site itself does not deliver the operational service.

CP-Lite is not a substitute for editorial judgment, legal advice, copyright clearance, or independent verification of source materials.

3. Eligibility and account use

You must be at least 18 years of age and acting on behalf of a publishing organisation, rights holder, author, platform, educational institution, or other entity with a legitimate commercial or research interest in editorial-governance tooling.

The Site does not currently host user accounts. All inquiries are made via email to rayan@living-literature.org.

4. Editorial responsibility — important

When CP-Lite is engaged to onboard a book under a separate agreement, the following allocation of responsibility applies and is a constitutive feature of the methodology, not merely a disclaimer:

Source text and rights. You retain sole responsibility for confirming that you hold the necessary intellectual-property rights to the source text and to deploy AI representation of it. We do not verify copyright, licensing, or rights chains on your behalf.
Editorial decisions. All editorial decisions about how your title is interpreted, framed, voiced, scoped, or bounded are made by you. We supply tooling and guided workflows; we do not author the editorial decisions and we do not warrant their interpretive correctness.
AI representation and fine-tuning. The AI companion built around your title operates under configurations you approve. Every accept-and-launch decision and every post-launch governance adjustment is made by you (or a person acting on your behalf under your authority). We do not unilaterally change interpretive behaviour.
Reader-facing deployment. Your decision to deploy a governed companion to readers, the surface on which it is deployed, and any commercial or contractual terms with downstream parties are solely your responsibility.

This allocation is the operating premise of CP-Lite: you hold the editorial authority, we hold the operational tooling.

5. AI / model disclaimers

Any AI outputs produced through CP-Lite are generated by third-party large language models, currently including but not limited to models from major commercial vendors. These models:

Are probabilistic and may produce errors, including factually incorrect statements, interpretive misrepresentations, or output that diverges from your source text.
Are subject to change at the vendor's discretion, including version updates, deprecations, and behaviour shifts that may affect outputs.
May reflect biases or limitations inherent in their training data.

The CP-Lite governance layer is designed to reduce, but does not eliminate, these failures. We make no warranty that AI outputs will be free from error, drift, hallucination, or interpretive divergence from your source text.

You agree that any reader-facing deployment of an AI companion built on CP-Lite includes appropriate disclaimers visible to end readers identifying the companion as AI-generated and noting that responses may contain errors.

6. Intellectual property

Yours. Source texts, configurations specific to your titles, your editorial decisions, exemplar Q→A pairs you author or approve, and reader-data collected through your deployment remain your property.

Ours. The CP-Lite methodology, configuration schema, governance copilot logic, code, documentation, and Site content are owned by Living Literature.

Public methodology. The Canon Pack methodology is published as peer-reviewed research (Vasse, 2026, Zenodo DOI 10.5281/zenodo.19548105) and may be cited, discussed, and referenced in academic work in accordance with academic norms.

7. Confidentiality

Pre-sales communications, including any sample manuscript content shared during exploratory discussions, will be treated as confidential and used only to evaluate fit. Formal confidentiality terms apply under any executed Non-Disclosure Agreement.

8. Disclaimers of warranties

THE SITE AND ANY DESCRIBED SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OR COMPLETENESS OF AI-GENERATED OUTPUTS.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL LIVING LITERATURE OR RAYAN B. VASSE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR ANY DESCRIBED SERVICES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION DAMAGES FOR LOST PROFITS, REPUTATIONAL HARM, EDITORIAL OR INTERPRETIVE OUTCOMES OF AI-GENERATED CONTENT, OR LOSS OF DATA, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SITE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) ONE HUNDRED EUROS (€100) OR (B) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US, IF ANY, IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM UNDER A SEPARATELY EXECUTED AGREEMENT.

10. Indemnification

When CP-Lite is engaged to onboard a book under a separate agreement, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Living Literature and Rayan B. Vasse from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

The source text, your underlying rights to it, or any infringement claim related to it
Editorial decisions you authorise about its representation, voice, scope, or framing
Any fine-tuning, configuration change, or governance adjustment applied with your approval
The deployment of the governed companion to your readers and reader interactions with it
Any reader-facing claims, marketing, or communications you make about the companion or its outputs

This indemnification reflects that editorial authority and decision-making rests with you.

11. Third-party services

The Site is hosted on Vercel. The domain registrar is IONOS. Future operational Services rely on third-party large-language-model providers and database hosting, disclosed at the time of engagement. Use of these third-party services is subject to their own terms and policies.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes are effective when posted at this URL with an updated "Last updated" date. Material changes affecting any executed agreement will be communicated through the channels specified in that agreement.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION TO BE CONFIRMED] without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of [JURISDICTION TO BE CONFIRMED].

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
